Christopher Alexander
Christopher Alexander has spent several years teaching and performing in the Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Chris studied jazz and classical guitar with Scott Elliot at Frostburg State University and West Virginia University. He then studied for a brief period with Bruce Holzman. In 2010 he began his doctorate in classical guitar performance at Shenandoah Conservatory. It was at Shenandoah where Chris met his most influential teacher, Glenn Caluda. Chris completed his DMA in 2013 and his dissertation focused on music transcribed for guitar by Francisco Tárrega. The document is titled A Selected Survey of Transcriptions, Paraphrases, and Adaptations for Guitar by Francisco Tárrega. He has taught at Garrett College of Maryland, Hagerstown Community College, Frederick Community College, and West Virginia University. In addition to guitar, Chris teaches music theory, aural skills, music appreciation, music methods for the education major, and music history. After completing his DMA, Chris took an interest in choral conducting and decided to go back and receive a bachelor’s degree in music education to become a high school choral conductor. He currently teaches general music at Eastern Elementary School in Hagerstown Maryland.
