James Piorkowski is a Distinguished Professor at the Fredonia School of Music, State University of New York, serving as head of the guitar program since 1983.
Piorkowski’s compositions and recordings include many works for guitar, both in solo and ensemble settings, and his live performances have been heard across Europe, North and South America, Russia and in the Caribbean. From 1982-2000, Piorkowski was a member of the world-renowned Buffalo Guitar Quartet.
Piorkowski studied composition with Anton Wolf at the State University College at Buffalo and Donald Bohlen at the State University of N.Y. at Fredonia, in addition to classes with Aaron Copland, Jacob Druckman, Lucas Foss, Morton Feldman, and Milton Babbitt.
