Cello Suites 4 – 6

While there have been many arrangements of these works for guitar, the purpose of this edition is
to provide guitarists with a score from which they might make their own arrangements.
Regardless of experience, approaching the music of Bach requires any number of decisions. As
far as the cello suites are concerned, guitarists should, through research, be able decide what
notes to add (if any), how to interpret Bach’s bowings, the execution of ornaments, when to slur
notes, or use campanella fingerings, and on and on. The idea here is for the guitarist to make
their own decisions as to what, if anything, needs to be added to the score to realize a successful
performance.
