Paul Peuerl (1570-after 1624) was an Austrian composer, organist, and organ builder. His chief posts as church organist were in Horn, Lower Austria beginning in 1602, and from 1609-1624, Peuerl was organist at the Protestant church school in Steyr. Peuerl was forced to escape Steyr and live in exile to avoid religious persecution after 1624, when the composer fades into the shadows of history.
Peuerl’s compositions are found in four collections published in Nuremberg between 1611 and 1625. His instrumental works are noted as early models of the incipient baroque suite, grouping four dances as suites.
